Residential Shafted Home Elevators
SHC EZ6 Home Elevator
The SHC EZ6 is the flagship of Staying Home Corporation’s residential elevator line — a true in-hoistway home elevator with fully automatic operation: press the button once and ride, just like a commercial elevator. It’s also the roomiest of the family. The standard car measures 42″ wide by 41″ deep with a 76″ ceiling and a 36″-wide car door opening, carries 500 pounds, and travels up to 31 feet serving as many as 5 floors at 15 feet per minute. SHC also builds a compact version, the EZ6C, with a 34″ by 33″ car for tighter hoistways. Like every SHC elevator, the EZ6 is full-time battery powered — two batteries continuously charged from a standard 120-volt outlet — so it keeps running during power outages.

Even though it lives in a hoistway, the EZ6 skips the construction baggage of a traditional home elevator: no pit and no machine room are required, and the minimum overhead is just 86 inches, which makes it practical to retrofit into existing homes — SHC specifically points to beach-front and multi-story properties. The integrated sliding door rides with the car, keeping you enclosed while the elevator is moving, and the safety package is serious: Honeywell door interlocks at every landing, an enhanced gate/bypass monitor that keeps the car from leaving the landing if anything enters the space between the hoistway door and the car, a pit switch, slack cable device, emergency stop and alarm, and a telephone in the car. Front, side, pass-through, and 90-degree entry configurations are all available, and every unit is built to the ASME A17.1 Section 5.3 residential elevator standard.
Staying Home Corporation builds the EZ6 in Harrisonville, Missouri — just south of Kansas City, right inside our service area — so factory support and parts are never far away. Home Accessibility Solutions is a family-owned dealer, and our installers are licensed elevator mechanics with factory training. The same people who measure your home at the free consultation are the ones who frame up the plan with your contractor, install your EZ6, and service it for years afterward. Per SHC, the EZ6 can fit some wheelchairs — sizes vary, so we confirm your chair’s dimensions and weight during the free in-home assessment before recommending it.
Model overview
Why choose the Staying Home EZ6 Elevator
The Staying Home EZ6 is a true in-hoistway home elevator and the flagship of Staying Home Corporation’s residential line. What sets it apart is fully automatic operation: press the button once and ride to your floor, just like a commercial elevator. It is also the roomiest car in the SHC family — 42 inches wide by 41 inches deep with a 76-inch ceiling — carrying 500 pounds, traveling up to 31 feet, and serving as many as five floors.
The EZ6 fits homes a traditional elevator cannot. It needs no pit and no machine room, and the minimum overhead is just 86 inches, so it can be retrofitted into an existing house. You choose from front, side, pass-through, or 90-degree entry, and when the full-size hoistway will not fit, the compact EZ6C car is built for tighter spaces. Options include clear vision wall panels, a floor-to-ceiling enclosure, automatic homing, key fob control, and custom powder-coat colors.
Press once and ride
Some home elevators require you to hold the button for the whole trip. The EZ6 works like a commercial elevator: press your floor once and it takes you there. Wireless RF hall stations at every landing call the car with no control wiring needed, and an optional automatic homing feature sends the elevator back to the floor you choose after each trip, so it is always waiting where you want it. See it on the manufacturer’s site →
Keeps running when the power goes out
The EZ6 is full-time battery powered. Two 12-volt batteries are continuously charged by a 2-amp smart charger plugged into a standard 120-volt outlet, and the elevator runs off those batteries all the time. When a storm knocks out the power, the elevator keeps working — no one gets stranded upstairs waiting for the lights to come back on.
A serious safety package
Honeywell door interlocks at every landing keep the hoistway doors locked unless the car is there. An enhanced gate/bypass monitor watches the space between the hoistway door and the car and stops the elevator from leaving the landing if anything enters that gap — meeting the ASME A17.1 (2016) door-gap rule. A pit switch, slack cable device, emergency stop, alarm, and in-car telephone round it out.
Built to retrofit into existing homes
The EZ6 skips the construction baggage of a traditional elevator: no pit, no machine room, and just 86 inches of overhead above the top landing. A front-opening EZ6 needs a finished hoistway of 48 by 55 inches, and the compact EZ6C fits hoistways starting around 40 by 47 inches. That makes it practical for existing homes, not just new construction.
Made just up the road
Staying Home Corporation builds the EZ6 in Harrisonville, Missouri — just south of Kansas City and right inside our service area. That means factory support, parts, and answers are never far away. It also means the drive system, from the dual winding cable drums to the aircraft-grade drive cables, comes from a manufacturer we can reach directly whenever your elevator needs attention.
Covered by two warranties
Staying Home Corporation covers the EZ6 with a parts-only limited warranty to the original purchaser: 3 years on the drive train, 2 years on other parts, and 1 year on batteries. Labor is not included in the manufacturer’s warranty — that is where our own 6-month workmanship warranty picks up. If our work was not done right, we come back and fix it at no cost to you — unless the issue was an act of God, user error, or misuse of the machine.

You’re covered twice
Manufacturer warranty
Staying Home Corporation covers the EZ6 with a parts-only limited warranty to the original purchaser: the drive train is under warranty for 3 years (defined by SHC as the motor, gear, track, and steel cable), other parts for 2 years, and batteries for 1 year. Labor is not included in the manufacturer’s warranty — that’s exactly where our own workmanship warranty picks up.
Our workmanship warranty
Every installation also carries our 6-month workmanship warranty, on top of the manufacturer’s warranty. If our installation needs an adjustment, we come back and make it right at no cost to you. We ask clients to allow five to ten business days for a return trip, though it is often much sooner. The warranty covers our workmanship; it does not cover acts of God, user error, or misuse of the equipment.
