A wheelchair lift — the pros call it a vertical platform lift, or VPL — works like a small open elevator. You roll on, press and hold a button, and it carries you and your wheelchair or scooter straight up: over porch steps, into the house from the garage, or between levels in a church or office. It does the same job as a ramp in a fraction of the space, with no pushing uphill. We’re an authorized dealer for Harmar, Savaria, and Liftup, and our own team handles everything from the first measurement to the finished install — including permits where your county requires them — across Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Arkansas. The lifts we install carry 750 to 880 pounds and work indoors or out. Below are the types we install and the real numbers on every model we carry.

Find the right kind first

Same goal, different tools. Start with the type that fits your home and how you live in it.

Homes where steps at the porch, deck, or front entry are the barrier and a ramp would take too much room.

Outdoor Porch & Deck Lifts

An outdoor lift sits beside your porch or deck and raises you straight up to the door in a footprint of just a few feet. These are built to live outside — galvanized platforms, powder-coated steel, and weather-resistant locks — and Savaria describes its Multilift as built to withstand harsh outdoor conditions. This is the most common wheelchair lift we install.

See outdoor porch & deck lifts →

Anyone who comes into the house through the garage and faces a few steps up to the door.

Garage Wheelchair Lifts

Garage entries usually only need a short rise, so a compact short-tower lift fits the job — Harmar builds the VPL400-X just for this, handling entries up to 53 inches while leaving room to park. It rides on the same 750 lb drive system as the bigger lifts, just in a smaller package that stays out of the weather.

See garage wheelchair lifts →

Churches, schools, offices, and public buildings that need code-compliant access to a stage, entry, or split level.

Commercial & ADA Wheelchair Lifts

Commercial lifts meet the ASME A18.1 safety standard for platform lifts and come configured for public use — keyed or keyless controls, interlocked gates and doors, and ADA-compliant platform sizes. Savaria’s V-1504 is the flagship here: it installs in a hoistway or with an enclosure, serves up to 4 stops, and offers finishes from basic powder coat to frameless glass.

See commercial & ada wheelchair lifts →

Taller rises, harsh weather spots, and any lift where code requires an enclosure (commercial landings over 60 inches).

Enclosed & Hoistway Lifts

An enclosed lift wraps the platform in its own tower with a door at the bottom and a gate at the top — a lot like a small elevator, without elevator-level construction. Harmar’s Enclosure Kit turns a Highlander II into an enclosed lift, and Savaria’s V-1504 can be enclosed or built into a hoistway.

Our Promise

Two warranties on every install

Each unit above carries its manufacturer’s written warranty — terms vary by model, and we put the exact terms in your quote.

Every installation also carries our 6-month workmanship warranty, on top of the manufacturer’s warranty: if our work was not done right, we come back and fix it at no cost to you — as long as the issue was not an act of God or misuse of the machine.

Questions families ask us

What’s the difference between a wheelchair lift and a ramp?
Mostly space and effort. A ramp needs a long, gentle slope, so a tall porch can call for a ramp that eats up the whole yard. A vertical platform lift goes straight up in a footprint of just a few feet, and there’s no pushing uphill — you press and hold a button and ride. For rises of more than a couple of feet, a lift is usually the more practical choice.
How much weight can a wheelchair lift carry?
Harmar’s Highlander II and VPL400-X and Savaria’s Multilift and V-1504 are rated for 750 pounds, and the Liftup FlexStep and EasyLift 1100 carry 880. That covers most power wheelchairs plus a rider.
Can a platform lift stay outside all year, even in Kansas weather?
Yes. These lifts are built for outdoor life — galvanized, non-skid platforms, powder-coated steel, and weather-resistant locks. Savaria says its Multilift is built to withstand harsh outdoor conditions, and Harmar offers cold-weather battery packages. For extra protection you can add an enclosure, which keeps rain and snow off the platform entirely.
Will the lift still work if the power goes out?
It can. Harmar’s ReadyUPS battery backup kicks in automatically when power fails. Savaria’s V-1504 includes battery-operated emergency lowering as standard, with a full battery back-up system as an option. If storms knock your power out often, tell us — we’ll spec the right backup.
How high can a wheelchair lift go?
Harmar’s Highlander II lifts up to about 14 feet, and Savaria’s V-1504 travels 12 to 14 feet in US hoistway installs. If you need to move between full floors inside your home, it may be worth comparing a home elevator — we install those too.
Does my lift need to be enclosed?
It depends on the height and the setting. For commercial applications, the ASME A18.1-2020 safety standard requires an enclosure when a lift serves a landing higher than 60 inches. Some folks add an enclosure anyway for weather protection — Harmar’s Enclosure Kit works with nearly any Highlander II setup without giving up any options.
Do I need a permit to install a wheelchair lift?
Sometimes, and it varies by city and county. In the Wichita area, for example, we file permit applications with Sedgwick County’s building department when a job calls for it. Either way, you don’t have to figure it out — handling the permit paperwork is part of our installation service.
What kind of electrical hookup does a lift need?
It depends on the model. Savaria’s Multilift needs a dedicated 120-volt, 15-amp line, and the V-1504 uses a 120-volt, 20-amp circuit. We’ll tell you exactly what’s needed after the site visit and coordinate with your electrician if a new circuit is required.

Not sure which one fits your home?

That’s the point of the free in-home assessment. We measure, we listen, and you get a straight answer — with a written quote and no pressure.
