Elevator-Ready Is a Selling Point

Nearly 8 in 10 adults 50 and older want to stay in their homes as they age (AARP). When those buyers tour a new two-story, they’re picturing the next twenty years in it. An elevator-ready plan shows them they won’t have to move again when the stairs get hard.

Elevator-ready means closets stacked on each floor and sized for a future shaft, the pit and top-floor overhead planned, and a dedicated circuit roughed in. The homeowner can add the elevator later without opening walls.

Our Builder Services, Phase by Phase

Before Framing

We review the blueprint and check shaft space, pit depth, top-floor overhead, power and load paths. Then we produce the elevator layouts and drawings your crew and the permit office need.

During Rough-In

We frame the shaft with the anchors and blocking the rails need and pour the pit or pad concrete to manufacturer spec.

The Paperwork

When stamped drawings are required, we coordinate the structural engineering. We handle the permit submittal and the inspection coordination for the lift.

Finish and Beyond

Our own crew installs the elevator and services it for years after closing.

Elevators Worth Speccing in Tulsa

Inclinator Elevette

America’s original home elevator, made since 1928, with many cab styles. A good fit for a custom home where the owner wants to choose the look.

Savaria Eclipse

Savaria’s best-selling shafted elevator, with up to 5–6 stops for basements, bonus rooms and everything in between.

Stiltz Through-the-Floor Lifts

For a plan that’s already framed, or a remodel with no room for a shaft. Stiltz lifts need no shaft, no pit and no machine room, and run on a dedicated 220-volt outlet. The Trio Alta is wheelchair accessible, carries 550 lb and serves up to 3 floors.

Residential Dumbwaiters

A small lift for groceries and laundry that’s easiest to plan while the walls are still open.

Spec sheets and manufacturer documents are on our home elevators page.

Oklahoma Weather and the Elevator Pit

Spring storms can soak an open jobsite. An open pit collects water, and an unroofed shaft takes on rain. We time the pit pour and shaft framing with the rest of your build so the elevator space isn’t left exposed longer than it has to be.

Storms knock out power, too. Stiltz lifts have battery backup that gently lowers the cab during an outage. Whatever model you spec, we’ll explain to your buyers how it behaves when the lights go out.

Why Builders Pick Our Team

  3. Drawings, engineering and permits get handled.
  4. Shaft and pit go in during rough-in.
  5. We install and coordinate the inspection.
  6. We service it after the homeowners move in.

MRL, Hydraulic and Custom Luxury Elevators for Tulsa-Area Builders

We plan residential elevators for new construction in the Tulsa metro from the first set of drawings. The model you pick sets the shaft, the pit, the overhead and where the equipment lives:

  • MRL (machine-room-less) elevators keep the drive in the hoistway, so there is no machine room in the plan: the Savaria Eclipse and Zenith, the REI Luxury Lift LLT, and the Inclinator Elevette with its MRL drive.
  • Hydraulic home elevators give a smooth, quiet ride and the lowest overhead, with a small machine room or cabinet for the pump.
  • Custom luxury elevators help sell the house: handcrafted Residential Elevators cabs in real hardwood, the commercial-grade Savaria Zenith, or a glass elevator as the centerpiece.
  • Pitless and low-pit options for a slab that is already poured: REI The Level and the SHC EZ6 need no pit.

Builder Questions

What does elevator-ready mean on a spec home?

Stacked closets sized for a future shaft, a planned pit and overhead, and a roughed-in circuit. We’ll lay it out on your plans.

The house is already framed. Is it too late?

Not necessarily. A Stiltz through-the-floor lift needs no shaft or pit and runs on a dedicated 220-volt outlet. Send us the plans and we’ll tell you what fits.

Do you provide stamped drawings?

When the job requires stamped drawings, we coordinate the structural engineering. We also produce the elevator layouts and drawings for the permit set.

Who services the elevator after closing?

We do. Our own crew services what we install.

What is an MRL elevator, and why do builders spec it?

MRL means machine-room-less. The drive rides inside the hoistway and the controller fits in a closet or small utility space, so you never have to find room in the plan for a machine room. The Savaria Eclipse, Savaria Zenith, REI Luxury Lift LLT and the Inclinator Elevette with its MRL drive all work this way. On the LLT, even the controller sits overhead in the shaft.

Should we plan an MRL or a hydraulic elevator?

It depends on where the house has room. An MRL elevator needs no machine room: the controller fits in a closet, or on the REI Luxury Lift LLT it rides overhead in the shaft. A hydraulic elevator needs a small machine room or cabinet for the pump, but can need less overhead, as little as 92 inches on the Savaria Infinity. We compare both against your plans.

What hoistway, pit and overhead should we draw?

It depends on the model, cab size and door layout. Pits run 8 inches on the Savaria Eclipse and Infinity and the REI LLT and LLH, and 10 inches on the Savaria Zenith and the REI Vision glass cab. Overhead runs from 92 inches on the Infinity to 108 inches on the Zenith. We send the manufacturer’s hoistway drawing for your exact configuration.

What should our electrician rough in?

It depends on the model, so we send the exact spec. Two examples: the REI Luxury Lift LLT calls for a dedicated 240-volt, 30-amp circuit, a 120-volt, 20-amp circuit for cab lighting and a phone line, and the REI LLH needs two dedicated circuits plus a phone line. Staying Home Corporation elevators run on batteries charged from a standard 120-volt outlet.

What custom and luxury options can we offer our buyers?

A lot. Residential Elevators cabs are hand-built in the U.S. from seven-ply, cabinet-grade plywood with all-hardwood trim and custom stains, in Classic, Shaker, Signature or Reserve styles, or glass and stainless. Savaria offers the Luxury Flush Door and the commercial-grade Zenith, which carries 1,400 pounds. We bring samples to the design meeting with your buyer.

Who inspects a residential elevator in the Tulsa area?

The Oklahoma Department of Labor runs the state’s elevator safety program, and the house is permitted through your city. We confirm the permits your project needs during plan review, handle the elevator permit and coordinate the inspection.

Can we build a home in the Tulsa area elevator-ready and add the elevator later?

Yes. Stack closets on each floor sized to the manufacturer’s hoistway drawing, plan the pit and top-floor overhead, and rough in the dedicated circuit and phone line while the walls are open. When the owners are ready, the closets become the shaft. See the rough-in checklist on our builder hub.
