What We Check on Your Blueprint
A good plan review catches problems while they’re still eraser marks, not torn-out studs. On every set of plans we look at:
- Shaft space: does the footprint fit the model, stacked floor to floor?
- Pit depth: what the foundation needs for the model you choose.
- Top-floor overhead: whether the ceiling and roofline leave enough room.
- Power: the dedicated circuit your electrician needs to rough in.
- Load paths: where the rail loads go and what the structure has to carry.
Equipment We Install for Builders
Savaria Vuelift Mini
A glass elevator that fits a 50-inch footprint with a 3-inch pit and 96 inches of overhead. It’s a showpiece that doesn’t demand much from the foundation.
Savaria Eclipse
The best-selling shafted elevator in Savaria’s line, with up to 5–6 stops.
Stiltz Home Lifts
When there’s no room for a shaft, Stiltz goes through the floor. No shaft, no pit, no machine room, and it runs on a dedicated 220-volt outlet. The Duo Alta carries 1–2 people and 375 lb in about 8.5 square feet.
Garage Wheelchair Lifts
Carries a wheelchair from the garage into the house in a fraction of the space a ramp needs.
Residential Dumbwaiters
Moves groceries and laundry between floors. Plan the shaft while the walls are open.
See spec sheets and manufacturer documents on our home elevators page.
Sloped Lots and Garage Step-Downs
Central Arkansas lots run from flat to steep. On a sloped lot, the garage often sits below the main floor, and those steps are the first thing a wheelchair user meets. Plan a garage wheelchair lift into the layout and the house works from the moment the car pulls in. It’s far easier to leave room for it now than to find room later. On a flat slab lot, a small-pit model like the Vuelift Mini keeps the concrete work light.
On the Jobsite
Once the plan is set, we frame the shaft with the anchors and blocking the rails need and pour the pit or pad concrete to manufacturer spec. We draw the elevator layouts for permits and for your crew, and coordinate structural engineering when stamped drawings are required. We handle the permit and inspection coordination for the lift. Then our crew installs it and services it for years.
The Elevator-Ready Option
Some buyers aren’t ready for an elevator yet but want the option. Stack closets on each floor sized for a future shaft, plan the pit and overhead, and rough in the circuit. Buyers planning to age in place notice that kind of foresight.

MRL, Hydraulic and Custom Luxury Elevators for Central Arkansas Builders
We plan residential elevators for new construction in Central Arkansas from the first set of drawings. The model you pick sets the shaft, the pit, the overhead and where the equipment lives:
- MRL (machine-room-less) elevators keep the drive in the hoistway, so there is no machine room in the plan: the Savaria Eclipse and Zenith, the REI Luxury Lift LLT, and the Inclinator Elevette with its MRL drive.
- Hydraulic home elevators give a smooth, quiet ride and the lowest overhead, with a small machine room or cabinet for the pump.
- Custom luxury elevators help sell the house: handcrafted Residential Elevators cabs in real hardwood, the commercial-grade Savaria Zenith, or a glass elevator as the centerpiece.
- Pitless and low-pit options for a slab that is already poured: REI The Level and the SHC EZ6 need no pit.
| Model | Drive | Minimum pit | Overhead | Machine room |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Savaria Eclipse | MRL, geared chain | 8″ (6″ may be possible) | 96″ | None. Controller in a closet |
| Savaria Zenith | MRL traction, 1,400 lb | 10″ | 108″ | None. Small utility space |
| REI Luxury Lift LLT | MRL traction | 8″ | 102″ | None. Controller overhead in the shaft |
| Savaria Infinity | Hydraulic | 8″ | 92″ (80″ cab) | Separate 4′ × 5′ room |
| REI Luxury Lift LLH | Hydraulic | 8″ | 96″ (106″ with EON doors) | Compact cabinet at the lowest landing |
| REI The Level | Pitless | None (2-1/2″ step up) | 108″ (6′8″ cab) | None |
Figures are from each manufacturer’s published specifications. Local code can change them. We send the manufacturer’s hoistway drawing for your exact cab and door layout before framing.

Frequently Asked Questions
When in the build should we call you?
Before framing, ideally while the plans are still being drawn. That’s when shaft space, pit and overhead are easiest to get right.
Do you work with architects too?
Yes. We review plans for architects, builders and remodelers, and provide layouts and drawings for permits.
Is a through-floor lift an option if there’s no room for a shaft?
Yes. Stiltz home lifts need no shaft or pit. The Trio Alta is wheelchair accessible and serves up to 3 floors.
Can you service an elevator another company installed?
Yes. We service and repair lifts from other installers, too.
Should we plan an MRL or a hydraulic elevator?
It depends on where the house has room. An MRL elevator needs no machine room: the controller fits in a closet, or on the REI Luxury Lift LLT it rides overhead in the shaft. A hydraulic elevator needs a small machine room or cabinet for the pump, but can need less overhead, as little as 92 inches on the Savaria Infinity. We compare both against your plans.
What hoistway, pit and overhead should we draw?
It depends on the model, cab size and door layout. Pits run 8 inches on the Savaria Eclipse and Infinity and the REI LLT and LLH, and 10 inches on the Savaria Zenith and the REI Vision glass cab. Overhead runs from 92 inches on the Infinity to 108 inches on the Zenith. We send the manufacturer’s hoistway drawing for your exact configuration.
What should our electrician rough in?
It depends on the model, so we send the exact spec. Two examples: the REI Luxury Lift LLT calls for a dedicated 240-volt, 30-amp circuit, a 120-volt, 20-amp circuit for cab lighting and a phone line, and the REI LLH needs two dedicated circuits plus a phone line. Staying Home Corporation elevators run on batteries charged from a standard 120-volt outlet.
What custom and luxury options can we offer our buyers?
A lot. Residential Elevators cabs are hand-built in the U.S. from seven-ply, cabinet-grade plywood with all-hardwood trim and custom stains, in Classic, Shaker, Signature or Reserve styles, or glass and stainless. Savaria offers the Luxury Flush Door and the commercial-grade Zenith, which carries 1,400 pounds. We bring samples to the design meeting with your buyer.
Which safety code do residential elevators follow?
ASME A17.1, the national safety code for elevators. Section 5.3 covers private residence elevators, and Residential Elevators models meet or exceed it. We handle the elevator permit and inspection.
Who inspects a residential elevator in Central Arkansas?
The Arkansas Department of Labor and Licensing runs the state’s elevator inspection and permit program, and the house is permitted through your city. We confirm the permits your project needs during plan review, handle the elevator permit and coordinate the inspection.
Can we build a home in Central Arkansas elevator-ready and add the elevator later?
Yes. Stack closets on each floor sized to the manufacturer’s hoistway drawing, plan the pit and top-floor overhead, and rough in the dedicated circuit and phone line while the walls are open. When the owners are ready, the closets become the shaft. See the rough-in checklist on our builder hub.
